About Dr. James
Originally from San Jose, Costa Rica, Dr. Janis James earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. She moved abroad to Puerto Rico to complete her optometric education at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry (IAUPRSO). She tutored fellow optometry students for 3 years while a student herself, and served as the inaugural president of her school’s chapter of the National Optometric Student Association.
Dr. James graduated IAUPRSO with honors, and returned to Atlanta, Georgia to further her optometric education. Dr. James completed a residency in ocular disease and ocular and refractive surgery at Woolfson Eye Institute. She is an active member of the National Optometric Association, where she served as a board member for the National Optometric Foundation. Dr. James is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
Dr. James is currently one of the lead optometrists at both Eyeconic Family Eyecare and Eyecare at Austell. Her passion is serving patients and expanding health literacy within her community.
